This was a great find! Particularly Simon Bach Strasse which has a full road of pubs and restaurants on either side - great choice. The prices here are also a lot less then in central Berlin or around Alexander Platz.

Boxhagener Platz is the heart of Friedrichshain. Lots of life, great bars, cafés, shops, and a fun fleamarket on sundays. It's close to the river, the main s-bahn line, and the amazing Schlesisches Tor neighbourhood in Kreuzberg.

Simon-Dach Strasse felt a lot like Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Great shops and restaurants for an enjoyable afternoon.

There's loads of nice bars and cool people in the area of Friedrichshain. Here you can find bohemian bars where they sell a Staropramen for a mere 1.5 and where people still have a personality.
