Outside of the city with a change in three trains from the city center is Treptower Park, and you must visit before you leave Berlin. Yes it is a pain to switch trains, but once you arrive, it is a small ten minute walk, and then you arrive at the memorial. My father recommended this site to me. he said... More

A lovely lovely park with an island in the middle of it. Hardy youngsters taking the plunge on April 22nd! But the must-see is the Monument to the Fallen. It is a classic example of the wonderful kitchy Russian Heroic Style. The surprise you get when you come across it will take your breath away. More

I am from Norway and have been a few times to Russia and former Soviet republics. But this park/monument stands out as something special. I wonder why our history books mentioned so little about the immense sacrifice the Soviet union made so we could be free today. The huge monument with the soldier holding a child is a very famous... It's a little way out from the centre, but worth the S-Bahn and bus rides to get to Treptow Park and the memorial to Soviet war dead. The memorial is huge, and the site contains the graves of thousands of Soviet soldiers. The enormous statue of a Soviet soldier, holding his sword over a smashed swastika, is genuinely awesome. I... Put your Lonely Planet to one side and visit a true treasure. This park isn't really marked out in many guides and I can't think why. Just visit, especially if you like your communist history. I have been to most Eastern European countries including Russia and Ukraine so I like to think I have seen a fair few socialist relics.... More

I've been many times in Berlin, but never visited the Soviet memorial to the fallen soldiers in the Red Army in Treptower Park and is very large, in fact, the greatest monument outside Russia. When you get into the park where at least 7000 Russian soldatder are buried you have to pass marble reliefs depicting images of soldiers and quotes... More

The park is well kept, clean and tidy. Pathways are marked well. There are stalls where you can top up with food and drink before you have a great stroll along the riverbank. The park has tennis courts and cycle tracks. You may easily walk past this little gem, just outside the park there is a gate that leads to... More

Monumental historic site. A bit scary and USSR. And kitschy, though it bears an important memory of the second world war. More
