Been here the first time as a kid of about 7 years and fell in love with the collection of Caspar David Friedrich's works (especially "Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer"). Luckily, there is a large collection with something for everyone, so just be curious and explore! Also, there are special exihibitions on different topics that only last a few months at... More

I visited this museum on a Wednesday and had the luxury of enjoying a gorgeous art museum without crowds. The most spectacular pieces are the high altars from St. Peter's and other churches. However, the museum also has paintings by Rembrandt, Friedrich, Runge and many others that were absolutely fabulous. I was also pleased, because the museum had an audio... More

Sometimes they will bring over many collections of some great artists to show in one place if you are lucky enough to be there when they have your favourite artists' collection displayed, then you'll enjoy so much. But otherwise, you still enjoy what they have there though. It's just good to learn how to appreciate some arts pieces. More

This a great gallery - actually three museums rolled into one. The Expressionist paintings by Nolde, Schmidt-Rottluff and Kirchner amongst others are well worth a look as is the contemporary art gallery. The video 'Baldesarri sings Sol LeWitt' is great. Worth a visit if you have time. More

went there with a friend on a rainy Sunday afternoon - say one may expect a lot of people and yes, there were a lot and in the end of our tour this just made us leave - a pity since the second part of the exhibition appeared far more interesting to me than the first which unfortunately we studied... Located in the centre of Hamburg the gallery is housed in a majestic and imposing building. It boasts a very fine collection of primarily European artworks (with an understandable emphasis on German material) ranging from Medieval polychrome altarpieces and carved wooden saints, right through to the twentieth century. Works are grouped in a largely chronological order, and it is perhaps... More

Ranging from 19th century works and modern art to contemporary art, the 'Hamburger Kunsthalle' has ... most of it. It was quite a nice experience, having gone with my family. I travel to Hamburg often and visit the Kunsthalle often, however I must say, it never gets boring! With on going and changing exhibitions, especially in the contemporary section, the... More

The main building houses a collection up there with the best of Europe's "classical" art galleries - including some wonderful 19th and early 20th century art. The newish white cube however was a major let down. We had expected to see more modern material such as Warhol, Pollock, Richter but in fact the collection missed out most of the later... More
