I had planned on getting there at opening but didn't quite get up that early. As it turned out, that was fine. I love open air markets and this was one of the best I have ever been to. Obviously, lots of fish but the there was also fruits and vegitables (with some wonderful looking fresh white asparagus). Unfortunately, I... More

If you want to see the real hamburgers hustle and bustle, then go and see the market on a sunday morning. I reckon you should be there at 09:00 to make sure it's all still these. We got there at 10:30, then spent 30 minutes waiting NOT to be served (I think the place was called dock 14 or something,... More

I've lived in Germany for 5 years now and I have to say, the fish market struck me as just very Hamburg. You have such a mix of different people: the regular shoppers doing their Sunday morning market visit, the tourists gawking at everything, and the drunk people coming straight from the clubs on the Reeperbahn. The atmosphere is so... More

This was really a fun experience and something interesting to do in Hamburg on a Sunday morning. Try the 'matjes' in a roll (raw fish but it is good) from one of the vendors, its delicious and uniquely Hamburg. In the main hall there is a band and a great festive vibe, you quickly forget its before 9am when you... More

We got up at 5am to drive into Hamburg to visit this classic venue. Dozens of stalls selling fish - smoked eel seems to be the main attraction - and everything else from food to plants and flowers, and household goods. In the old fish market building itself you can listen to great live music and enjoy an early morning... More

Nice building, but don't expect any fishmarket here. This is the *former* fish market hall! Only on sunday mornings some tourist-trap thing. Maybe nice. Go see the building though, nice location, and walk on to the USSR submarine parked close by (300m to the East) and open for visits. More

Great, beautiful Market with Live Music, fresh food, Flowers and lots of people. Starting from 5 'clcok until 10 am in the morning it is the attraction in Hamburg... Amazing, chaotic and lots of people - must seen in Hamburg. Well located next to the Harbour City, with the beautiful view of the River called Elbe. More

If it's fish you're after then this is definitely worth seeing. Colorful, noisy and chaotic. As well as the actual market on a Sunday morning, the Auction Hall doubles as a late night/early morning bar from 4/5am and even has live music. Carry on your party with breakfast, a glass of sekt (German bubbly) and live music. Why not. More
