The harbour is an interesting place to visit. We went on a boat trip and saw containers being loaded and unloaded on ships of varying sizes.
There was a festival in progress with many interesting craft and food stalls. Also, a lot of people watching could take place whilst sitting at one of the harbour bars or retaurants.

As Hamburg is a harbor city, it is something not to be missed. You can just walk on the piers or take a boat trip which will cost around EUR 16 for a 1-hour cruise around the port. You'll see all those huge containers, ships, cranes and everything there in the port.

This is where to go for the boat trips around the harbour. We went for a long trip - 2 1/2 hours (!!) to see the working port and all the container shipping as well as the old canals. It was a bit too long and maybe a shorter boat trip would have been better but it was interesting.

It was amazing to walk along here and further down to the new Hafencity. This is as much Hamburg as it gets, not to be missed as you will not have seen what the city is about. The river, the ships, the views and the air. Coming back here every year!
