From America, we visited family from my grandparents who lived near Hamburg. We all went to BallinStadt in September 2007. I think it opened in July 2007. It was very similar to Ellis Island in New York (New Jersey), but did not appear to be as large. Ample displays and large photographs--some explanations in English.
