After hearing so much about this famous Opera House, it became a 'must do' when we visited Dresden. After waiting in a long queue for a lengthy time, we finally purchased our tickets and escorted into this magnificent building. After depositing our bags, and asking for information in English did we find out that there are no facilities on this... more

I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Semperoper in Dresden and went to 2 performances in Sept 2008. The tickets were, by UK standards, extremely reasonable in price - 2nd circle for 14 euros (bought from the website with a 3 euro surcharge) and bought the day before the performance from the box office in Dresden 4th circle... more

Architecturally, the Semperoper is a gem. However, I bought expensive tickets to the Nussknacker (Nutcracker) via e-mail from the Semperoper's website, and the performance was sub-par due to the spartan lack of staging and costuming. Perhaps Dresden's ballet company lacks for funding because of restoration needs from the 2002 floods? My German relative had heard from other Germans who had... more
