Although a bit out of the way, this natural park, formed when it was underwater, has unbelievable rock formations. The drive itself took us through beautiful towns, including Antequera, and countryside. The two hikes from the nature center are short, the longer being about 1.5 miles (2.6km) over uneven but not too difficult terrain. There are caves, longer hikes and... More

My husband and I really enjoyed our trip out to El Torcal Natural Park. We had read about the amazing rock formations in guide books and they were better than we could have imagined. The drive from Antequerra gave us some amazing views over distant towns and once in the park area the miradors provided far reaching views of the... More

We took advice from our hotel owners that this would be a worthwhile trip. We were not disappointed. We love outdoors and walking and this place was a real treat. We took the longer 'walk' through the amazing rock formations. This was not for everyone as it does require you to be agile and in good footwear. The 'path' is... More

El Tocal sits some 1300 meters high near the Andalucian town of Antequera. Limestone rock formed under the sea millions of years ago and pushed upwards to leave a quite unique formation with a variety of plants and animals. We saw Ibex & large birds of prey in abundance on our hour walk through the 'Park' The 'Mirador' viewing area... More

This is a wonderful place - high up above Malaga. Fabulous and tortured rock formations - the place used to be under the sea. Very mystical on somedays. We have actually driven through cloud and come out into blue sky at the top - it can be quite scary on the way up and down as there are no barriers... More

We knew nothing about this until we read the guide book in Antequera. With brilliant views all the way down to Malaga, a strange and weird series of mountain peaks all shaped by the wind and weather. Very atmospheric and well worth a special effort to get there. More

We happened upon this area almost by mistake. I had read that the rocks were impressive but in fact it was amazing! A long drive up to the summit which gradually became more unusual. The rock formations were excellent and several school coaches arrived at the same time as us making us think we would be swamped. We weren't though... More

Taking a hike in the extraordinary landscape of ‘El Torcal’, about 30 kilometres north of Malaga certainly makes you feel as if you are in another world if not another time. There are plenty of well signed routes of different lengths. The most established and longest is the yellow route, and for the less adventurous there is a much shorter... More

A large area of weird rock formations, high up in Andalucia. Unlike anywhere else I have visited. Atmospheric, especially away from other people. Well worth the short drive out of Antequera. There's even a visitor centre / cafe up there! More
