Really quite different view of Spain. The landscape is stunning as is the coastline. Equally striking are the "plasticos"....never seen anything like them. And checkout the flamingos too. More

I went in the non-peak season to San Jose during April, so it was rather deserted. Great to have the beaches to myself and a few others, but can be a little too quiet and lonely after a while. The views from the cliffs were stunning though, and the people of the town are really friendly. Recommended restaurant would definitely... More

We walked about 3 hours from San Jose up and down the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea through the Cabo de Gata - Nijar Natural Park. The contrast between the beautiful blue sea and the stark and stony park was unusual. We ended up with a picnic lunch on one of the many beach coves. More

Great routes near the shore. Many variations in height, great views, even when the weather is less then perfect. More

My husband and I visited the park a few days ago while staying in Mojacar. The weather wasn't at its best during our visit (quite windy and mainly grey and cloudy with a bit of rain towards the end of our tour in the park) but overall we were disappointed by the park as it does not really feature anything... Although in the villages of the Cabo Del Gata natural park there are lots of invernaderos (plastic tents with tomatoes etc.) the coastline is very beautiful. There are lots of unspoilt beaches and the trip to the faro de Cabo the Gata is nice, but the road gets narrow on the old vulcano. In april the beach near the salinas... More

The only desert in Europe - dry almost all the time. Very high percentage of sunny days. Very Spanish and not really discovered outside Spain. Protected wild life, plant life, animals, fish - the lot. Strict planning rules mean that it's not over-developed like other areas and it probably won't be. More

There is a sense of space, light and isolation that is hard to find outside the USA in the Cabo de Gata. We found ourself alone but for mile upon mile of beach and the occaisional bar. We are told that it gets very busy in the high season which is why we went in March! At this time of year... More
