We walked about 3 hours from San Jose up and down the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea through the Cabo de Gata - Nijar Natural Park. The contrast between the beautiful blue sea and the stark and stony park was unusual. We ended up with a picnic lunch on one of the many beach coves. More

Although in the villages of the Cabo Del Gata natural park there are lots of invernaderos (plastic tents with tomatoes etc.) the coastline is very beautiful. The only desert in Europe - dry almost all the time. Very high percentage of sunny days. Very Spanish and not really discovered outside Spain. Protected wild life, plant life, animals, fish - the lot. Strict planning rules mean that it's not over-developed like other areas and it probably won't be. More
