There is a wonderful museum at the top of the Monte that recieves no notice in the tourist information. It really puts the history of the town in perspective including what was happening in europe during our war of 1812. . We had a wonderful picnic on the monte and enjoyes the view of the ocean and city.

This place overlooks the city and the sea . It can be quite steep but it keeps old cemeteries ( well kept ) from the wars of the early 1800's when Napoleon invaded . Also fortifications .

Monte Urgull is the hill, which is situated directly opposite from Monte Igueldo. It is the one with the large castle, "Castillo de Santa Cruz de la Mota" and the monument of Christ.

You can go walking on the long sea`s quay and go up the mount Urgull. Trip is very interesting. On the side of the road you can see old fortress and different plants. On the top there is big cathedral. the trip takes long times.

My wife and I climbed to the top of Monte Urgull when we visted San Sebastien in October 2011. We stayed in Pamplona, and took a bus to San Sebastien for 20 euros, round trip.
