This place isn't greatly advertised and I only came across it through Tripadvisor. The center is run by very enthusiastic volunteers. We were warned that the actual museum was cold and it certainly was, but there was lots to see. One of the volunteers asked if we wanted to be guided around and we accepted. We were taken underground into a coal mine by a real (former) miner. He filled in the silence with tales of his own experiences.
An interesting experiment was when we all turned our head-lamps off to see real darkness. It was very dark.
Since it was the weekend of the Inauguration of the Apedale Valley Light Railway (steam, narrow gauge)...
