We toured this old house of Jewish worship with a private guide which I very much recommend. A lot of money has been spent to renovate this building and it's evocative to squint your eyes and imagine what it must have been like to attend worship services here hundreds of years ago. A fine historic gem, and not just for... More

Not a large place, but an imposing central room that is well decorated, plus a small exhibition of Jewish religious artifacts. Spain expelled the Jews in 1492, and it is extraordinary this building survived with some of its features intact more than 500 years, but that's Toledo. In other places, the Spaniards just built cathedrals (quite imposing) over existing mosques. More

We did find some aspects of the visit interesting particularly learning a little of Jewish life, looking at the building, to understand the displays there are reading cards available in several languages, these cards I feel take away from the experience of the visit. In the end there is only so much that you can absorb, disappointing visit More

We looked forward to visiting this historic landmark in the old Jewish Quarter of Toledo. Maybe it was just me, but when I walked inside I had mixed feelings about it. One the one hand, it was preserved from centuries ago and that is very important. But on the other hand it felt like an attraction, not a a place... More

The synagogue is a fairly small building, but there is nice, small museum attached, showing some artifacts from Toledo's Jewish heritage. I loved seeing the Hebrew carving around the top of the old sanctuary, seeing that a little Jewish influence had survived the Spanish Inquisition. More

The museum is quite small and there aren't that many items on display. Most explanations next to the exhibited items are in Spanish. Unfortunately we do not speak Spanish so found it a bit unfulfilling having to read laminated cards in English, provided separately in several parts of the museum (and that had to be left in place). We don't... More

This former synagogue situated in the Jewish section of Toledo, is a lovely stop on your walk around the old city. The walls and the ceiling are beautiful examples of how grand this synagogue must have been. There is also a nice little display of traditional clothing, housewares, jewelry and religious artifacts from the 15th and 16th centuries before the... More

The outside of the synagogue is pretty unassuming and it isn't until you buy your ticket and walk into the main hall, that you understand what everyone is talking about. First, the hand carved larch wood ceiling draws your attention, then the ornate wall on the far end grabs your eyes as it is simply beautiful. Make sure you walk... More
