This is a fabulous example of architecture of its day. Our hotel was very near, and the restaurant of the hotel abutted up against the walls of this gate. It must have been very impressive to anyone considering attempting to conquer Toledo. More

These gates weren’t on our self guided walking tour (see below) but when we passed them on the bus we decided we needed to get to them to take a picture because they looked so cool. The flower picture I took was near the bus stop right by these gates. It was a cool little park with a gazebo in... More

The Bisagra Gate is located at Calle de Alfonso VI. The Moors built the gate and its name comes from the Arabic word Bab-Shagra, which means "Door of the Sacred". During the reigns of Carlos V and Felipe II, the gate was completely rebuilt and the architect was Alonso de Covarrubias. It is composed of two bodies, between which there... More

The Puerta Nueva de Bisagra is the kind of thing you can take in just a couple of minutes, but is nevertheless worth seeing. In this case, you have to basically leave the old historic section of Toledo and cross the busy highway to get at a good distance from the Puerta where you can really take it all in.... More

We enjoyed walking all around Toledo (despite 100-degree heat). The gates surrounding the city add to the atmosphere and magical feeling in Toledo. More

If you are in Toleo for any length of time I suppose you ought to see it. If on a day trip, don't bother. It is very grand, but in a ratehr laboured and pompous 17th century way. The gate demolished to build it was surely more beautiful, as is the (old) Bisagra gate just round the city wall. More

Not much to see, but still worth some pictures of the inside and out. You can see through bar doors into the bottom of the towers. Unless you know the history you won't spend much time there. More
