the stunning retablos and tombs by Gil de Siloe are better than anything in the Burgos cathedral. The peaceful beauty of this living monastery is a gift to the spirit.

The Monastery has a beautiful altar, very intricate and all in gold (of course - if you've visited the Cathedral in Burgos you would expect nothing less!) The main chapel also has the tombs of the parents of Isabel la Catolica which are intricately carved in marble.

This is a lovely monastery is east of Burgos (not within walking distance) with great art work and magnificent sculptures by the Siloe brothers. It was free, but be warned that as of early Oct., 2006, renovations were being done on the magificent reredos, one of reasons for visiting.
