The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is an awesome example of Catalan modernisme designed by Montaner. It is now a UNESCO protected site. The buildings are stunning inside and out and it's still functioning too! There are very cheap tours of the facilities that you can get tickets for right at the site. The tour takes to... more

looks more like a church than a functional hospital, in any direction. the mosiacs, the fountains, the crosses... although visitors are not turned away, do aware that it is still running and don't get in the way of the staff. The Sagrada Familia can be seen directly from the church, and is a 5 minute walk away. more

Of all the great buildings in Barcelona, I would say this is my favorite. Actually it's many buildings. I highly recommend stopping by the hospital. It's about a block from the subway stop. more
