About
Casa Mila, popularly known as La Pedrera, is a most unusual building, constructed between 1906 and 1912 by the architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) and declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1984. Today it is the headquarters of Fundacio Catalunya La Pedrera and houses a cultural centre that is a reference point in Barcelona for the range of activities it organises and the different spaces for exhibitions and other public uses it contains. A visit to La Pedrera, landmark building and container, gives us a better understanding and appreciation of architecture and transports us to the period when Antoni Gaudi lived.

Address
Neighbourhood: Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.

- Janay LReading, United Kingdom62 contributionsInteresting place to visitAnother piece of Gaudi’s intelligent architecture. Once again, your visit is so well organised. You are given a tablet and headphones (sanitised before given to you) so you can listen to the commentary at your own will. The staff are polite, friendly & so accommodating to disabled people.Thank so much for taking your time to write this comment! We're so pleased to have served you. - travelbob1New Windsor, New York1,136 contributionsWish I Had to Time to Go insideOur visit only allowed time to view the exterior and the Gaudi store. Both were worth the visit. The time spent allowed us to discover the many details that make this structure a work of art and design. Binoculars are a must!We really appreciate your comments and observations. The next time you come to Barcelona, you can't miss a visit to the interior of Casa Milà. You will be able to see the only exhibition space with all the work of Gaudí and views of the city from the rooftop, one of the most beautiful in Barcelona. Don't miss the opportunity! - permia40,931 contributionsCaptivatingEnchanting it was to visit and experience all aspects of the masterpiece that was completed around 1910 by the inestimable Gaudi. Looking up from the foyer and seeing the highly ornate multi floors was marvellous. Visiting the preserved apartment was interesting, viewing the domesticity of the time. A literal highlight was the roof with sentinels doubling as vents and chimneys. A remarkable array. One vista was of a fantastic face with windows as eyes, nose and mouth. Nearby is the superb work in brick that is the attic. Here also is a great model of the full edifice complete with wrought iron ornamentation.Thank so much for taking your time to write this comment! 👏Written 16 April 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 April 2023
- IlaudjBucharest, Romania961 contributionsWorth the visitSo this is my fifth time in Barcelona and decided to visit this site. It is really nice, especially the attic and the roof. In the attic you find out a lot of interesting things about Gaudi's style of design. Usually iti is crowded and i suggest buying a ticket online one day before. We hope to see you again soon!Written 8 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 27 April 2023
- travellinggypsy04Makati, Philippines62 contributionsMust See, Casa MilaNo need to get the skip the line tickets if you can be there by 8am. Since we stayed in Hotel Paseo de Gracia Hotel (less than 2 mis. walk to Casa Mila), we were the first to get in line. I must say, Casa Mila is worth a visit. The interior of the casa is very interesting and will give you a glimpse of Gaudi's creativity. It is worth the money because you will see actual furnitures and be inside the actual house of the family who commissioned Gaudi. Climb your way to the attic and to the rooftop. You'll witness intricate structures and out of this world designs and understand the reasons behind such structures. To tour the whole casa, it may take about 2-2.5 hour. It's a great start for your Gaudi adventure.Thank so much for taking your time to write this comment! 📝👏Written 8 May 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2023Written 2 May 2023
- TripInsiderSouthwest Gulf Coast, Florida278 contributionsGaudi, ContinuedWe did the CasaMilà interior tour as part of a private guided walking tour, combined with an interior visit of Casa Batllo, following a separate tour of La Sagrada. Barcelona is very much a city shaped by Gaudi and we appreciated interior visits to his buildings. The rooftop was the most striking feature of this building. The views of the streets were outstanding, of course, but the sculptural structures on the roof are a unique must-see.Thanks for classifying it as a must-see 👏Written 9 June 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 June 2023
- Mary F141 contributionsAnother Gaudi masterpiece!Another one of Gaudi's masterpieces. Surprised by the reviewers who found this building exterior blah. It is unlike anything else I've ever seen! Distinctive and highly visible from the street. We found the self-guided tour interesting and appreciated being able to go at our own pace. You don't get to see the whole interior as this is still an apartment building occupied by tenants. That said, you do get into the attic and roof, which are incredible. And you get to tour one apartment which gives you an idea of what the whole building would be like. The gift shop is also very nice, but beware - it is a public space and my cellphone was pick-pocketed while I was shopping. Classic case of being bumped, and then my phone was gone. Which was of no concern to the tour operator or the gift shop staff. Still, this is experience that fans of Gaudi should not miss. We're so pleased to have served you. - digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,869 contributionsAntoni Gaudi HouseLine ups were long at Casa Batlló, so I paid the 25-euro online ticket to enter the Casa Mila attraction instead based on limited time. The attraction was pretty cool, and on the top of the roof you can see Sagrada Familia in the distance. Casa Mila, is also known as La Pedrera, had was constructed in the early 20th century. I ended up purchasing an Antoni Gaudi book, who is the famous Spanish architect of Casa Mila, Sagrada Familia and other attractions in Barcelona. Antoni Gaudi designed Casa Mila with without load-bearing walls, transferring the entire weight of the building on to a cleaver network of pillars and beans that converted each floor into an open space. Casa Mila is a 6-story building with an attic, and has quadruple the surface area that Casa Batlló has.We love to hear that you enjoyed the experience! 🥰Written 25 July 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 July 2023
- LinnLondon, United Kingdom26 contributionsGorgeous architecture and structure! The whole journey started with taking the lift all the way directly to the 6th floor. Then you will walk anti-clockwise to go through one apartment, followed with green screen photoshoot both and gift shop. Going up one more floor to the attic, where there is a Gaudi exhibition. The roof has amazing view towards the Main Street Pg. de Gracia and you can look down to the atrium of this residential block. Probably because this one is not as other private bespoke houses for wealthy people, the interior is not as stunning as other Gaudi’s houses. The overall architecture and structural design is gorgeous though!Thank you! We hope to see you again soon.Written 19 September 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 September 2023

I bought a premium ticket to La Pedrera. It was a worthwhile experience because the ticket allows you to visit special rooms in the casa. Silvia, my guide, was delightful. Her love of working in this environment is evident. We ended the 90 min tour with a chilled glass of cava and delicious cookies that popped in your mouth. I highly recommend this guided tour.

We simply loved this place. The interior areas are special, but the roof sculptures were even better. What an experience! Be sure and spend some time in the gift shop. We collected some nice Gaudi-themed items as souvenirs.

Having seen Casa Batlló earlier, I was a bit disappointed in this visit, the best part was the roof, lucky it was sunny that day. The housing was not that special although I did forget to ask when it rains heavy waster coming in the middle will run on the ground floor.

I certainly appreciated the architecture more of this building but you only get to see the lobby and the rooftop and the attic area. We spent about 1.5hrs total here as well and given the smaller areas, it felt a bit more crowded. Still worth a visit though.

We were scheduled for a 4 pm tour but were able to reschedule to an earlier time at ticket office. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Tour of apartment is ok but really interesting part is in the attic. Here you can see some of Gaudi’s architectural innovations and thought process. Due to rainy conditions, rooftop was closed which was understandable but still disappointing. We had a difficult time locating La Pedrera Casa Mila but I’m glad that we made the effort.

Good experience, especially with the unique decor and rooftop, fantastic for many photo opportunities. Audio guide gave lots of great information, however there were certain exhibits that were tailored more towards those into their architecture/ history etc.

This is truly a masterpiece and architecture that anyone from a five-year-old to 100-year-old would find interesting.
Give yourself plenty of time. Do not rush. If you are not familiar with the architect, take the more expensive tour you can learn about him and this building and many of the other buildings that he has done.
Give yourself at least three hours to slowly look and explore. Buy your ticket online and it will save you much hassle. Download the app for this particular attraction.

About the stairs, nowadays La Pedrera has 2 lifts that allow visitors to reach the roof top during the visit. Even if we recommend to use the service stairs because every single corner of the house is worth to be seen, visitors are also welcome to use the lift if they prefer it.

We booked the night tour a couple of months ago, but now its not looking like we will be able to get into Spain at all due to travel bans. (We're from the US). Does anyone know if there is any possibilty for a refund?

If for whatever reason you decide to change the date of your visit, we will manage to change it. But if finally you cannot visit La Pedrera, we will refund you the amount of your ticket. The Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, which manages La Pedrera, wants to offer maximum flexibility to people interested in visiting the building.
It is forecast to rain this evening. Is it a bad idea to buy tickets for La Pedrera Night Experience?
