Neighbourhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

We went for an audio tour and were so blown away by the beauty and acoustics, we booked 2 tickets for the evening performance of Flamenco and Symphony. It was SPECTACULAR! Music is a universal language so it didn't matter that we couldn't understand what they were saying. Pro Tip: Choose a seat on the orchestra level if you want to be able to see all the action on stage. We were in the mezzanine, slightly to the side, and we couldn't see everything that happened on stage.Visited March 2023Written 23 March 2023
- EgmondoScarborough, United Kingdom317 contributionsA beautiful setting for an enjoyable concertWe attended a concert here: Mozart’s Requiem and Symphony no.40. The concert itself was excellent, but the setting greatly enhanced the experience! The auditorium is stunning, delightfully decorated with painted plasterwork and the most beautiful stained glass. Unfortunately you don’t get to see some other parts of the theatre when attending a concert, for that you have to book a tour, but it was a unique experience seeing the Orfeo Catala in this glorious UNESCO World Heritage concert hall.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 April 2023
- CPC1911Sydney, Australia522 contributionsGorgeous building but try and catch a performance for a full experienceWe went to a performance of Bach’s Mass with a visiting choir. The music was superb but it was made all the better by being in this most gorgeously and outrageously over the top concert hall. I could almost imagine what it might have been like at the height of fashion with everyone dressing formally and being “seen”. Even if you can’t catch a performance, it’s well worth a visitVisited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 April 2023
- gringottsgoblin369 contributionsAnother Art Nouveau MasterpieceYet another amazing building from Lluís Domènech i Montaner the architect of Recinte Modernista de San Pau. An extraordinary interior and exterior and a great theatre and venue in a city with many opera houses and theatres this is a bit different. I will return and ensure I get tickets to a performance in this place and speaking of performance this place is a performance itself. Bonkers crazy wonderful. Go and enjoy it will put a smile on your face and it has a good place to eat in the tasteful modern extension.Visited May 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2023
- pepperpattik61 contributionsHappy blunder! This happened to be about 500 feet from our hotel and at the advice of a breakfast encounter, we decided to check it out. Happened to be a concert that night and we were able to buy tickets. Ended up being one of the highlights of our trip! If you have a chance to see a concert here - don't miss it. A beautiful venue in the modernista style to rival Gaudi (almost).Visited April 2023Written 30 April 2023
- meinirannCarmarthen, United Kingdom3,067 contributionsBeautiful!I did a guided tour here last month. I’m so glad I booked a guided tour as I recieved a lot of interesting information I would not otherwise have known. Our guide was very good - friendly and knowledgeable. The building is absolutely stunning. I’d read many comments before my visit that it was a beautiful building and is a must see, but I didn’t realise just how beautiful it would be. It really is stunning. It was a very special experience to stand on the stage too. I highly recommend a visit here, and if possible, a guided tour. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to come to a concert here during my visit, but if I’m ever back in Barcelona, it’s something I would very much like to do.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 May 2023
- Joe_CruzerToronto, Canada1,847 contributionsPalace of music indeed.Nice music palace. We saw candle light concert in this hall during our visit of Barcelona. Small in size but big on the design. The sound was great. A restaurant attached is a nice bonus. Certainly visually striking. The downside is not all of the seats have a good view of the stage. We paid 40euro per seat and both are partial view of stage.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2023
- Patricia B10 contributionsOh My Goodness. One of the most concert halls in the world.I came to Barcelona to see Gaudi’s works of art and discovered Luis Domenech I Montaner. His Palace of Music is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world. A guided or audio tour is a great introduction to the Modernista movement in Spain. If you get a chance attend a concert. We attended an incredible flamenco show. We had box seats with fantastic views of the performers. You must reserve entry tickets and concert tickets in advance. We got ours before we left the USA.Visited May 2023Written 21 May 2023
- MargaretNicoleSan Francisco, California365 contributionsFantastic building and great concertsWe attended two concerts in this building, and both were world class. This gave us a great chance to see the building and also appreciate the music. The building is very lovely, with every little detail decorated, the back of the stage area, the columns, the light fittings, everything is beautiful and special. I highly recommend it.Visited March 2023Written 1 July 2023
- crusaderccGeorgetown, Texas842 contributionsAbsolutely stunning interior! We watched a children's choir concert our first night in Barcelona and were blown away. The building is highly intricate and colorful. If you are in Barcelona for the architecture this needs to be second on your list after Sagrada Familia. And to make it even better the choirs were very talented and fun to watch! Wish we could understand Catalan - ha!Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 15 July 2023

We really enjoyed our guided tour around this beautiful venue. The guide was very enthusiastic and full of interesting insight.
We were also fortunate to enjoy a live performance as a Jazz orchestra were rehearsing at the time of our visit, which allowed us to note that the acoustics were a match for the stunning decor.
The cafe was also very good.

The music hall was very beautiful no doubt but it was just that the hall no other rooms, it cost 19 euros for essentially one view I think 10 euros more like it.

We had been planning on booking a tour but when we found a guitar and flamenco concert for the last night of our trip we booked it immediately. We paid €42 each for stall seats, the concert was about 90-110 minutes ( no interval) and it flew by. The music was phenomenal, the dancing superb (especially the male dancer) and the encore was astounding - have you ever seen three guitarists and a percussionist play a Michael Jackson melody on ONE guitar??!
The building itself is stunning, and I would like to return in daylight to get the effect of the natural light. Hoever it was nice to see it being used for its proper purpose, not just a museum. The bar/ restaurant looked interesting but of course was very busy.

This beautiful concert hall is designed in the Catalan modernista style, built 1905-1908. The iron structure incorporated glass walls to allow more light.

We decided at the last minute to visit and got lucky by joining the last guided tour of the day.
It started with a movie in the Petit Palau. We then walked into the original building to visit the foyer. However a private event precluded us from entering and fully seeing it.
We climbed the grand staircase and then entered the amazing concert hall. The central skylight up above was truly a sight to see. Even with the storm clouds outside it still let in a lot of light. The decor was modernism that also incorporated musical muses and so glad we could see a lot of it up close. We were also allowed to walk on stage as our guide continued the tour and then setup for a demonstration of the massive organ. The sound was beautiful and hopefully we can come back to enjoy an actual concert.
The Lluis Millet Hall was one floor above the concert hall and contained a special art exhibit. Outside was the balcony where many instagrammable photos were taken with the beautiful mosaic columns.
We finished the tour on the balcony over looking the concert hall which was a great perspective to see its entirety. We did find the seats not very comfortable though!
Outside the fascade of the Palau was also a must see including the statues of many famous composers. It was not as easy to see all the details due to the surrounding buildings and tight street. Our guide used the 2nd floor balcony to point out details in the reflections to the opposite building’s windows.
This should be a must see when in Barcelona. Well worth the time to see this UNESCO designated building.

What are the Category A and B best seats for the Flamenco performance at Palau de la Música
Patricia B
10 contributions
The quality of the seats depends upon how much you pay. Category B costs 35 Euros; Category A is 42 Euros; VIP seats cost 55 Euros; Premium seats cost 75 Euros. Go to the Palace of Music website to view the seating chart. The less a seat costs, the farther from the stage. Posts blocking your view from some of the cheaper seats. We were in box 8 on the right side of the stage. Each box has 7 seats - three in the front (Premium seats), 2 in the second elevated row (VIP) and 2 in the third elevated row (VIP). The box and the seats are very small and next to each other in the first row. The view and sound from where we were seating in the elevated second row were fantastic.

Is there a way to find out how long a show will be? I would like to find out how long the Tribute to John Williams (2nd Part) concert on December 19 will be. Thank you.
