I cannot in good conscience recommend this store to fellow travelers. It is basically a very overpriced Macy’s; why would anyone waste their vacation hours shopping at a Macy’s? There are quite a few of these stores in Barcelona and in Spain; the one I wandered into was in Placa de Catalunya.

The imposing edifice of El Corte Ingles, across from the Placa Catalunya, is an amazing experience. While in Barcelona for a visit, hitting the requisite tourist spots like La Pedrera, La Sagrada Familia or other museums/spots, your shopping will be limited to themed gift shops (or worse the tourist inspired wares on the streets outside them) that really don't give...

El Corte Inglés is a beautiful store ( we were at the new building). Lots of articles, don't get astray in the huge building with all kinds of specialities. The restaurant is a treat. Everything is here - the layout is a little confusing - differnt registers for different areas, but you will eventually find anthing and everything you might need.

The store can be a one-stop shopping place. However, beware of staff who charges your credit card without asking your permission higher non-Euro prices (after a worse conversion rate and conversion fees) compared to just paying in Euros. The staff, in general, could be friendlier.
