If you want to get away from the crowds and the noise and stay in a quiet, safe neighborhood than this is the best place in Barcelona. This was my favorite area to visit during my recent visit to Barcelona (July, 2009). A stark contrast to the narrow, dark Gothic quarter of Barcelona (which also has its charm) this area is made up mostly of wide, open boulevards filled with moderniste architecture. Our friends ended up staying in L'Exiemple District Barcelona due to circumstances (mix up with apt keys at agency), but it turned out to be gem! More like Paris with wide boulevards & prettier buildings with the Moderniste style everywhere. Lots of tables outside for eating & drinking & taking in the atmosphere. Nice safe area to stay in with Gaudi at your doorstep and a short walk to la ramblas. Very pretty neighborhood area. Not tourist oriented. more
