The Magic Fountain is absolutely magnificent and it's a must for anyone visiting Barcelona. It's runs only from Thursday-Sundays from 9pm and is free. Just back from Barcelona. Worth a trip to see the fountains. Got there about 6:45 for the 7PM start and got a spot right in front. We had no problem getting the Metro afterwards to return to our hotel. We took public transport, bus/Metro, the entire time and found it the best way around. very safe. more

If you can, try to visit the fountains in september, when the Mercé fiasta is on. On the actual Saints Day, the last day of the festival the fountains display with fireworks ! it is incredible, an awe inspiring spectacul.
