Went to Montserrat on a day trip and it is an amazing place. We got a coach to the bottom of the mountain and then went up via a 10 min train ride. Once there you have a variety of things you can do. My favourite would have to be the hikers trails which you can follow. There are a... more

We bought the EU 22.5 ticket from the tourist info center. Left Espana square with the R5 train at 10:30 am and spent the whole day at Montserrat (visited the church, listened to the 1 pm choir, lightened a candle, went up on a funicular ride and walked for an hour, went down on a funicular ride and walked for... more

One has a choice to get to the peak, accordingly, by taking furnicular. However, one will be able to appreciate the beauty of the mother nature more if one choose to hike. Montserrat National Park is a wonder for hiking lovers as there are different paths and routes to get to the peak. We completed our hiking to the peak,... more

In march 2009 I visited Montserrat with some catalan friends. We went there with they own car, but I belive there is a train from Barcelona to the base of the mountain. From the parking on the base, we took an aereal telepherique up to the mountain. The mountain is fascinating. Make sure you lisent the boys choir, they sing... more

We paid 36 Euros for the total ticket that you can buy from any tourist information booth in Barcelona . This covered the metro to the Espana train station , the train to Montserrat , the cable car , the museum and a meal in the cafe (which was at least 15 euros). The monestry was superb and the views... more

Today (July 10) we (2 adults and 14 yr old) did a half-day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat, and returned completely whipped. We used the TransMontserrat ticket that included metro to train, train to Cable Car, Funicular to St. Joan, and the slide show. We left apartment at 10:00, got lunch stuff at La Boqueria, and made it to the... more

We did Montserrat on our own, without a tour. It's pretty easy to buy a ticket either at a Tourist Information center or at the station itself. It's better to buy beforehand since the combined ticket includes the metro to and from Espanya station. We bought the TransMontserrat ticket, and the TotMontserrat ticket might be worth it if you have... more

We had high expectation of Montserrat but it somewhat fell short of our expectations. It was far from our expectation of a tranquil monastery and everything seemed very commercialised. We didn't see any monks around, only tourists and school excursions, groups after groups after groups. The Basilica is no doubt very nice and grand but somewhat small. Definitely not enough... more

We bought a transport ticket at one of the information centers in barcelona. It included the Metro, train, railway. Caught the 9:30 AM train to the railway up to the Monsastary. Would recommend you pack a lunch. Saw the choir boys at 1PM. They only sign for about 15 minutes. Take the fundicualr up and eat lunch while taking in... more

My friend and I were only going to be in Barcelona for 3 days but from what we had read about Montserrat, we decided that it was definitely a place we wanted to see. We booked a day tour through Pullmantur Tour Company, on-line from the US before we left home. We were not disappointed in our decision. We left... more
