This museum houses some great art work but unless you are a great lover of art it is best seen during the evening hours when the museum is free. A huge museum. Easy to get to by subway, bus, and walking from lots of hotels. The line was not particularly long but be prepared if there is European day or other days where folks can get in for free. On the day of our visit, we had to stand in VERY long lines to even get into the Prado Museum. So - make sure your get here as early as possible in the morning ... We went to the Prado on both trips to Madrid, the first time just before noon and had to fight our way through the a mass of tour groups. The second time we went around ten and the experience was much more pleasing - we had the museum to ourselves for about the first hour and a half. more

The works of the great Masters. If you are into art then you must make it a point to visit the museum. It was the highlight of my stay in Madrid. We were lucky enough to see the Joanquin Sorolla exhibit as well. more
