This is THE definitive collection of modern art in Madrid. This not the stuffier Classical artists...this is Picasso, Dali, Miro and so many others. It's worth it to see Guernica alone. Cubism, Fauvism and pretty much every major modern movement in Spanish art from the early 20th Century...seriously, don't even think of not coming here. more

If you're a modern art enthusiast - this is the place for you! If not so much, you should still visit - even to only see Picasso's Guernica during the free-of-charge hours. We went there with such plan and actually ended up walking through the whole museum and really enjoying ourselves:) The museum consists of two parts, two buildings -... more

We saw the Reina Sofia in mid-May on Sunday morning (when it's free) with no lines. We arrived near opening at 10 am and went directly to Guernica. We studied it as long as we wanted, then went back to see the [excellent] newsreels etc with the background for the painting. By the time we left the Guernica exhibit, the... more

Let me preface this by saying that I enjoy modern art. Therefore, I liked the Reina Sofia. However, if you don't have any interest in modern art, spend your time elsewhere. I came during the free hours on Saturday afternoon and was surprised to see how few people were there. Yes, it was crowded, but you could easily get close... more

During our stay in Madrid my wife and I decided to visit the Reina Sofia museum. After visiting the Prado we were excited for a change of pace. From the beginning though the museum seemed to have a cold atmosphere. First off the cashier at the front was most unhelpful. We waited a minute or so while she finished reading... more

The Museum was spectacular... But the cafe service (AROLA) was terrible: more than 30 min in line (I was number 4) to get a sandwich and a soda. Only one person taking orders. It was disgusting to see a man putting an order of potato chips with his hands without gloves instead of any type of cutlery. more

If you're keen on modern art then you'll love the Reina Sofia. As more of a classic art fan, I was in there for no more than an hour and much of that time was spent enjoying the sun in the leafy and very pretty courtyard. The highlight for me was undoubtedly Guernica and it was for that reason alone... more

Absolutely loved the Museo Reina Sofia -- it was so much better than the Prado! We were there in June 2006. . .sangria and soccer (the world cup was going on) every afternoon. more

We visited Madrid 13th to 16th September 2006, simply to get our first taste of this wonderful city. We will certainly be back for more. As time was short, we restricted ourselves to what we thought was the famous stuff by Picasso and Dali. Whilst we are clearly not Art lovers, we knew what to expect from these Artists, but... more
