We ate at the Museo del Jamon twice during our stay in Madrid. You can find many Museo del Jamon restaurants in town center. The looks are great - half restaurant - half bar - half butchery, the places are rustic and decorted with hanging hams. The menu is mainly for tourists and comprises the typical dishes in Madrid: Ham,... more

We first visited a Museo del Jamon when doing the adventurous appetites tapas tour. It was busy, and good enough to persuade us to go back on 2 further occasions. They look a little cheesy from the outside, but really seem to be used by the local. At one of them we were the only non-Spanish there. Good number of... more

Cheap, vibrant and the beer is the cheapest in Madrid. It's a great place to graze, but not to have a sit down meal. more

I live in Madrid and eat at various Museos del Jamon fairly frequently. I am American and they have never tried to rip me off there. Eat at the bar and many of the items cost only one euro. A list of these items is clearly posted behind the bar. You can also get plates of good ham or cheese... more

Went to the Plaza de Sol location and ate at the counter; great deal for lunch. croissant mixto (croissant with ham & cheese) and beer or coke or pan tomaco museo (bread/tomato sauce/ham): all 1.00 Euro each. Great for quick lunch. Also good deal on the fresh orange juice 1.50 Euro compared to up to 3.60 at Starbucks. Also point... more

Prior to my trip I had read in guidebooks and online that the Museo de Jamon would try to screw you by getting you to order jamon iberico (ham that costs 10 x more than regular ham). A pretty experienced traveler, I assumed this would be by employed on the more naive who didn't know the differences between the classes... more

How can you pass it up, with all those hams hanging in the window? Ate standing up at the counter, across from the retail area, with some Spaniards on their lunch break (love how these fellows stand up drinking beers and eating jamon sandwiches while in three piece suits in the 80 degree weather). The price was right and it... more

We ate at the location in Plaza Mayor for lunch, and this was the worst restaurant we ate at during our entire trip to Spain/Portugal. The paella was absolutely horrendous and smelled horrible like it had been sitting out or was made with rotting meat, and everything else we ordered (egg sandwich, potato tortilla, fish entree) was greasy and not... more

It's a good standby. For Brits, think of it as a somewhat upmarket and more exotic greasy spoon, with beer. It's especially useful when you want refuelling of an evening, but are not happy to wait till 10 p.m. for a "proper" restaurant, and are unwilling to shell out vast sums for a few measly tapas. more

We ate there twice (the second time was because we wanted to be sure for our opinion). It's nothing special. We could find better sandwiches in many places in Spain. Even the plates served were of medium quality. more
