If we all admire Goya, then we must be curious where the great painter is buried. I was. So I headed to Pricipe Pio Metro Station and walked along Paseo de Florida towards the Hermitage. Ooh, the frescoes on the ceiling is like a mini-Sistine Chapel. Goya is truly a genius. Don't miss this! http://marilil.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/31-madrid-blog-series-headless-goya-off-the-beaten-path/ More

Totally worthy the trip to see it! Magnificent Goya's paintings on the ceiling of the ermita, really surprising to see an influence of his future black period in those paintings, totally unexpected More

For a quiet, laid back afternoon, wander the river walk on the Manzanares from the Campo del Moro, go through the Hermitage where Goya is buried and lunch or dinner at Mingo´s. This is a Madrid landmark, cider house. Menu: Salad, whole chicken, cider, sausage. If you don´t know how, ask the waiter to show you how to pour the... More

I was not certain what to expect but if you love Goya, this is a wonderful experience. The ceiling is completely painted - loose brushwork - it far exceeded my expectations. More

From the outside it is a, basically nondescript, yet lovely little chapel. Inside you will be treated to beautiful frescos by Goya. The painter is also interred here in the chapel. The frescos have been restored (several years ago, now), offering the viewer the original, vibrant glory of the images. I understand they were previously quite yellowed. It is a... More

It's a little out of the main centre, but only about three stops on the metro so well worth a detour. You won't be here long - there's one thing to see and that's the Goya frescoes covering the (small) chapel. But for me this was Goya at his best (I wasn't a fan of the black period), it's free,...
