We almost didn't go there, it being late in the afternoon, we being tired, it being stuck behind a forbidding fence. So glad we did, because this church, built in the 1980's, is refreshingly bright, jubilantly colorful, yet full of the usual sacred relics and gorgeous religious fixtures. Ihe interior of this cathedral, adjacent to the royal palace, where royal marriages take place,is one of the most beautiful in Spain. There is besides the main altar ,a "second one" with paintings of the Holy Family wich are extraordinary and there are wonderful silver chandeliers near to the stairs. A visit is recommended. More

We've seen spectacular cathedrals all over Europe but because this one wasn't actually finished until relatively recently, it's quite an unusual mix of colours and styles inside. Worth a look - voluntary fee of just one euro More

Madrid's most important cathedral is surprisingly modern and perhaps this is part of the reason why locals in general are not overly fond of it. Although its construction began in 1879, it was only finished in 1993, in a style that is meant to reflect that of the Royal Palace that sits in front of it. The cathedral is dedicated... More

The Almudena Cathedral probably is not worth a special visit for most tourists in Madrid, except those who have a primary interest in Catholic places of worship. If you are an ordinary tourist who finds themselves in the western city area, intending to visit the must-see Royal Palace which is right next door, it is convenient and may be interesting... More

The cathedral is a place of tranquility, peace and beauty. Even those of us who have no religion could not help but to be impressed. The work of those skilled workers and artists of a bygon era is absolutely fantastic. More
