We absolutely loved our Prado museum family tour with Almu! She was so friendly, informative, and knowledgeable about the beautiful pieces of artwork she showed us. She engaged both our children (ages 10 and 17) in a way that made them pay attention and have fun learning about art. She is a wonderful person who seems to love very much what she does, and I will recommend her tours to anyone visiting Madrid. And if I’m fortunate enough to visit Madrid again, I will myself book another tour with her. One of the best tours we’ve done, and our children agree!

Alum passionately narrates a walking tour of Madrid’s civil war sites that brings to life the sacrifices the general public was subjected to during the Spanish Civil War. From the bullet scarred University to the site of the Florida Hotel, Alum weaves a personal story that illuminates the struggle between progressives and fascists that is still very much alive in today’s world. This tour resonates the history of the republicans’contributions to modernize life in Spain. A history which Franco’s fascist supporters continue to suppress. This tour is a must for anyone who seeks to understand the significance of the Spanish Civil War.

I took my boys, ages 12 and 14, on Almu’s 2.5-hour treasure hunt-style tour of the Prado. One of my sons doesn’t enjoy tours or art museums much, so I kept my expectations reasonable. But Almu was so engaging and brought so many visual aids that my kids (and I) were thoroughly entertained and engaged the whole time. She knows her subject matter deeply, but she also knows how to keep children engaged. The Prado is an incredible museum and I was left wanting to take my own full-day tour with Almu someday! I would recommend this experience without hesitation.

Almudena was AMAZING! She is incredibly knowledgeable, kept my 2 daughters engaged in the tour, and was professional and friendly. El Prado is huge and can be overwhelming, but thanks to Almudena we learned so much, and saw so many amazing works of art, without getting bored, tired or confused. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!!

Fascinating tour. Almu’s passion for ensuring the story of Spain’s fight against fascism is told comes through clearly. You won’t find much mention of the Civil War elsewhere in Madrid so if you want to learn more then this is the tour to do. I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.

I cannot more highly recommend this opportunity! Ms. Almu is fabulous- skilled, knowledgeable, personable, engaging. Wow! As soon as we scheduled the tour, she was so organized and helpful in getting to know our family and what we needed and then when we met up, she was so engaging! She read the kids needs very well- two of our kids have ADHD and she was so aware of what they needed, puled me aside to ask questions and had such an overall positive attitude. Moreover, my kids learned a ton! After this part of our trip was done, they transferred what they knew to visits to other museums (the colors of Mary's dress, St. Michael's wings, St. George's dragon, Mary's shape matching Jesus'...). I knew my kids were engaged during the tour but was floored by how much our kids remembered days later! The adults learned a ton too and I am so grateful for this experience. We had never done a kid tour to a museum and if only Ms. Almu could travel with us all over the world! :)

Our tour with Almu was amazing! We took our boys ages 6 and 9 for their first art history museum visit. Almu kept the boys engaged with stories and information about the art and taught them a lot about history. I personally loved the feminist viewpoint even if unintentional. It is am important thing for kids to learn about how society has changed and is changing. Again such a warm and informational experience that I would highly recommend!!!

I did the Spanish Civil War tour with my brother. Almu showed us loads of interesting sites to do with the conflict and many which still bear the bullets of the war. This is an extremely important tour and highlights the conscious ignorance of the war evident from officialdom in Spain itself.

Took this Prado Museum tour with my about-to-6-year old daughter, who has very limited background on western paintings. She really enjoyed it. After spending 2.5hrs tour with Almu, she stayed in the gallery for one more hour to just look at those paints. Prior to this tour, I was never able to keep her in any art museum for more than 60mins.

I was lucky enough to do a solo tour with Almudena. My reasons for wanting to do this tour specifically and with her is because I wanted a historical tour based on fact, not propaganda, from someone who is an expert in this area; I have a personal familial connection to Spain that is also specific to the Spanish civil war era; and lastly I studied transitional justice as part of my masters degree. This tour was better than I could have possibly expected. And Almudena is so warm that the hours passed effortlessly. I HIGHLY recommend this tour if you want the real history of this era. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm interested in booking the kid's trip you wrote about. Can you direct me to the agency? Was this done directly through the museum?
Thanks for any help you can be,

Hi,
You can book our tours through our website, not through the Museum. Please book early as we run out of slots very quickly due to demand. We look forward to hearing from you- this is the best way to explore Madrid and its cultural treasures as a family!

Would a 5year old get much out of the childrens’ tours, or are these geared toward older kids?
AMadrid14
Madrid, Spain81 contributions
Hi! Yes, we can certainly do the Prado for Children tour with a 5 year old! I adapt the content and the vocabulary depending on the age of the child, and it works really well- you will be surprised how much a 5-year old will absorb and learn during this tour. Contact me through my website email and make sure you book asap, we are a tiny company and are very much in demand during the high season. Thanks!
Almu.

What is the duration of the Spanish Civil War day tour? What would be the cost for two fit Seniors in March 2019?
AMadrid14
Madrid, Spain81 contributions
Dear canadakate_11,
Our Spanish Civil War lasts around 4 hours. It would cost 60 euros per senior if there are only 2 of you. Please consider that other companies (including some that plagiarised our work!) are charging over 300 euros for a private tour. We have been working in the field of Historical Memory for 10 years now, and our materials are exclusive and personal. We also raise money for a non-for-profit Association of Friends of the International Brigades. We care about the comfort of our clients and if you are tired, you can certainly ask to be seated, but bear in mind that most of the time we are walking from site to site, although there is always a break for refreshments halfway through the tour. If a client lets us know beforehand we can provide a folding stool. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further questions. This is the original Spanish Civil War tour in Madrid and our knowledge and committment goes far beyond any other shallow, neutral tour on offer. Many thanks!

How much is the Prado Museum with tour guide? Does it include the entrance fee and audio-guide or hearing device for the tour? What time does the Prado tour start , how long and available on Sundays too? Thank you
AMadrid14
Madrid, Spain81 contributions
Dear cando101,
Our Prado tours run every day and we are flexible regarding starting time. Admission tickets are not included and they cost 15 euros per person, although if you are over 65 you can get in for half the price if you can show proof of age at the ticket office.
The cost of our tours depends on how many people sign up for the tour. Prices start at 70 euros per person but they could go down to 55 euros if we get a small group.
We do not use hearing devices since our groups are always small, maximum 7 people.
Audioguides are not included since you would be getting a tour guide with an excellent academic background in Art History.
We hope you book with us- we offer the best 3-hour tour of the Prado!
Many thanks,
AcrossMadrid Team.
