We spent three hours on a hot day at the buried village. Starting at the nice cafe before buying bottled water. Poking our noses into forums, houses, gardens (some being reconstructed). Archaeology students occupy one building. Do buy a map. Although signposted the lost village is big, also the map gives interesting details. More

I visited Pompeii as a day trip from Rome. This is very doable but requires two train trips, first to Naples then to Pompeii. I spent 5 hours at the site, which was ample (but you could easily spend much more time). The vast size of the ruined city surprised me, as did the in tact condition of the ruins.... More

Ancient Pompeii ruins is by far the biggist site ive ever visited in europe. You need at least two days to see all the ancient streets and villas. You will need a map, guide (audio or visual) to get the best out of your visit! The best to visit is around april/may time to avoid queues for tickets and the... More

As I planned my Italy holiday I decided we might need a guide for Pompei. As recommended by Rick Steve's from his web site I contacted Gaetano Manprodi. What a great fine...... Gaetano was wonderful. He made Pompei come alive,he has such a passion for it. All 7 of us had a wonderful time reliving how Pompei used to be.... More

A must see. Just make sure you DO get a map, guide (audio or visual), and a big bottle of water before you go in. Things are barely labeled, so to know what you are looking at you really need a guide. It can also take a full day to get around and see everything, so plan accordingly, either by... More

A trip around Pompeii is probably a requirement if you visit this area. This place is incredible. The streets are just as they were prior to the erruption. The buildings are missing their roofs. This is a very large site so give yourself plenty of time and plan your visit. Get a guide book and map before you go. More

We first went to Pompei on a day trip from Rome and fell in love with it. An excellent tour guide showed us round but we felt we had not seen a quarter of the town. It is very big and very very interesting, you can spend 30 mins just in one villa. We were determined to return and have... More

If you are coming to the area, then it is almost guaranteed that this is where you will visit, so rather than detail all that we did and saw, let me rather list a few points of advice. • It is easy to spend a whole day here. We arrived at 8:30am and left at 6pm. Hence wear comfortable shoes.... More
