The Villa Poppea, Or Oplontis as it is correctly named, is only one stop, from Pompeii itself on the train. But is a must see. Of the Vesuvian archaelogical sites, this one may have the most to offer for the least amount of hassle and time. One stop past Pompeii Scavi on the Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Naples, Oplontis is a lot closer to Sorrento than Herculaneum (if you are staying there). The Villa de Poppea (aka known as Oplontis), is thought to be owned by the wife of Nero (whom he beat to death). I visited this site last week and I would urge anyone who loves Pompeii or Herculanuem to go there. The site is a Villa partly destroyed in AD 79 along with Pompeii.
