Hadrian's Villa and the Villa D'Este are two sizable, rich and closely linked sites in and around Tivoli outside Rome with the renaissance Villa D'Este blending ideas and features from the ancient Hadrian's Villa with a magnificent show of renaissance wealth and power. It would be impossible to cover and understand one of these sites in a day as a... More

We were excited about doing this tour with our kids ( ages 9, 10 and 13) after experiencing a great tour in Paris (with another company). However this didn't meet our expectations. Our guide Valentina was incredibly knowledgable and aimed the tour towards the kids but unfortunately it was too long and pretty "dry". My husband and I thought it... More

We booked a 4-hour Vatican walking tour (8-12) with Context, based on other reviews and plugs, and our expectations were exceeded. Pierpaolo, a professor in art history at a local international college, was passionate, informative and down to earth in his guidance. We were light on sleep and part of a group of only 6 on a very hectic Thursday... More

My wife and I took two walking tours with Context in Rome - Caravaggio's paintings, and Villa Borghese. Our tour guides were thoroughly well-acquainted with their material, and were passionate about it to a fault. My wife and I learned so much from our enthusiastic guides, and got every last dollar's worth. The next time we are traveling to somewhere... More

We had an incredible set of Context tours in Rome, both with our children (ages 7 and 4). I could not recommend the company or the experiences more highly. We were particularly thrilled to have the Ancient Rome Discovery tour with Jose - two weeks and many sites later, both of our children are still talking about it! It is... More

Our docent (Carol) was the consummate professional and worked well with our small group of 6 people (three adults, three teenage boys 14, 16, 18). She explained everything very well (for us non-artsy people), accommodated all of our questions, looked for feedback and comments, and was very accommodating of taking minor stops and starts, She had a deep understanding of... We spent 4 days in Rome and took 2 tours. The first was with Maximus Tours and we went to a 3 hour tour of the Vatican. What a disaster! Our group was 20 people 3 were in wheelchairs and we spent 1/2 our time looking for ramps and elevators for them. There was no interaction with our guide and... More

NB This is a correction of a previous entry. I gave two companies excellent reviews for different reasons, but unaccountably mixed up the posts. Apologies to anyone I misled. The docents (these people are not simply "guides") are first rate and offer a high-quality service comparable to the best tours anywhere. Warmly recommended. Worth the extra money if you're serious... More

From now on, I am booking my tours with context. The guides are very knowledgeable. They showed us underground Rome. I learned things that you could not learn if traveling by yourself. More

We were fortunate to take the Arte Vaticana tour with Teresa of Context Tours. Our group was small (4 people) which was perfect for this tour. Teresa was vibrant, insightful and very knowledgeable . She provided revealing and interesting information regarding the history of the art we viewed. She was extremely well versed in the history, not only of the... More

Dear CC, Thanks for your comments about Vatican tour. We believe that an expert or scholar like Theresa must have passion and enthusiasm for a subject in order to effectively make it come alive. You can possess great quantities of knowledge, but unless you have the skill to truly communicate that knowledge it's all for nought. Glad that this approach... More
