The elegant steps by Francesco de Sanctis (1723-1726) consist of twelve flights of varying width, which descend to the scenic Franciscan Church of Trinita dei Monti. « less

For those who said it was nothing special, you may have missed the point. It is a wonderful place on a sunny day to have a gelato or cafe and watch the world as it is in Rome. We had a day at the end of our stay in Rome without a schedule. We walked from the Coliseum to the... More

If you're searching for a spot to rest your feet after a long day of walking you should consider Piazza di Spagna (Spanish steps), it's a great place to rest without having to buy an expensive plate of pasta, and you can talk to new people from all over the world, you can also find guys selling beer, flowers, and... I really didn't see why this place is a landmark, but it was nice just grabbing a coffee and panini and sitting on the steps. The steps lead up to a church (surprise!) and is located right next to the Keats-Shelley house (pretty awesome if you are into literature/history). It was pretty crowded when I went, not so much as... More

The steps have a lot of history and is worth a visit .But don't go with a lot of expectations because you may be disappointed and say that it is just another staircase !! They are always crowded with tourists but on a lucky day you may get to see a uniformed band playing at the foot of the stairs... More

As others have said this place is always packed, but why not, its almost a tradition that you must stop and sit on the steps, preferably with some gelato, and enjoy the view. If you get here first thing in the morning you may get a glimpse of this wonderful architecture in all its glory, but be sure to arrive... More

Don't get me wrong, the Spanish Steps are a very nice architecture feature in Rome, but their true scale and beauty can only be appreciated when they are not packed with people. Unfortunately, that never happens. Still, climbing the steps and geting a nice view of the area is a must. More

Arriving at the steps i was a little taken back by the sheer amount of people on them to the point where you couldnt really see the steps. However after climbing a few flights we found a fairly large area where we could sit down and stretch out and take in all the sites around, soak up the sun, rest... More

After having visited Piazza del Popolo we walked on to the top of the Spanish Stairs to visit the Trinita’ Church and Barcaccia Fountain at the foot of the steps. This was during the day. (Fashion shows are sometimes organised on these steps). We also went to the Spanish Steps on another evening. The streets surrounding this Piazza are just... More

My personal recommendation is to grab a gelato then, grab a seat on the steps. This is a great spot to people watch and sometimes, you can catch a performance from a few talented b-boys (we did on our third day there). There are tons of people but, there always seemd to be a spot to sit down. However, if... More
