The advantage to Castroni is that they have everything from all corners of the globe. Their deli is brilliant and make you want to sample. The bar is excellent and is worth a visit for the coffee and cornetto alone. They also have branches elsewhere in Rome, close to Barberini and at La Storta on the Cassia north of Rome.

Great store on a great street. All kinds of great foods -- from chocolates to coffees to Betty Crocker cake mixes. There's an espresso and dolci bar and the place is always busy. It's a fun stop if you're in the neighborhood. And, the neighborhood is a Roman neighborhood. The Cola di Rienzo is not a traditional tourist area so...

We dropped by Castroni on a specific errand (buying their whole espresso beans for a friend who'd tried them before and wanted more). But once we got there we just had to spend some time wandering the aisles. This is a great gourmet food shop, a feast for the eyes and the nose. It's a wonderful place to pick up...
