If you love Roman history and have studied it and especially their art and architecture then you will appreciate going here, despite the price (NB: if you are from the EU there are discounts for certain people - and discounts for Roma Pass holders!) And a response to the reviews below, don't pay to go to a museum if you... More

We didn't have to pay full price as we had the Roma card (still 5.50 euros per person) but I felt this museum was definitely lacking in terms of exhibits and did not justify the price of admission (particularly when you can just look through the glass windows for free, as the explanations don't really tell you too much about... €7.50 for an altar without any kind of museum attached? Seems like thru need to pay the architect who designed the outer shell that nobody seems to like but is actually quite remarkable amidst all its historic neighbours. More

Don't get me wrong....this is a beautiful structure: gorgeous carvings on gleaming white marble, completed around 9 BC to celebrate the Augustan peace, won by the military might of the Roman Empire and Augustus Caesar. The problem with Ara Pacis is simple: As a stand-alone it lacks enough interest to justify paying 10 Euro to see it. If the Alter... More

AVOID! You can see all there is to see through the glass walls of the museum. DO NOT waste your money on the exorbitant admission fees. Mind bogglingly dull and full of underemployed surly state employed staff, this is a prime example of all that is wrong with Italy's management of its greatest assets. More

I felt be cheated when I paid the high entrance fee and got in. You can see everything outside the museum from the windows of museum, it is not neccessary to get in except if they hold a exhibition that you are interested at. You can spend the money on other better museum with the same cost!!! Never get in!... More

The Ara Pacis is worth seeing, and the building that houses it is very nice -- all glass walls for good light and a nice airy feel. The price may be a bit steep considering that only one thing is there, but if you are travelling on a budget, you can stand outside the building and still see the alter. More

For me, from the 'Res Gestae' carved on the wall outside to the stunning interior, the Ara Pacis, a more than 2,000 year old "Altar of Peace", used (paradoxically) for sacrifices, is a stunning work of Roman art and architecture and is housed in a building which shows it off to it's very best. Security is discreet and visitors are... More

The entrance fee gets you into this very modern museum....which houses the Aca Pacis. The altar is spectacular....some of it is replicas of what has been destroyed.....but there are no other exhibits in the museum. They had a few replica busts of family members of Augustus. I thought I had missed a floor of exhibits! You can see the altar... More
