Incredible doesn't come close to describing it. Spectacle from lost ages on all sides, whist treading upon the ancient roadways constructed by the slaves of the Roman Empire. Starting at the Colosseum, winding up hill on the ancient stones of Via Sacra, (the road depicted in movies with the Roman Legions marching down it and the crowds standing on the... more

This is surely one of the greatest historic sites in the world. For most people however the experience is a huge let-down: You face surly staff, random pricing (we were charged an additional 3 euros for a temporary exhibition of which we saw no trace), and random closures (Domus Livia was closed with no explanation / many direction signs led... more

Outside of the Colesseum you will find people asking if you need a guide. I had already known about this, so when an English one asked, we said sure!! First off.... with the guide, you SKIP the line at the Colesseum! On our day it was over 2 hours long. Second, they were awesome... so much great info. There are... more

So I listened to the Rick Steves audioguide and memorized his map of the hill. Basically it is ruins. I learned more from the audioguide and map than I could understand from actually being there and seeing it. It is mostly ruins...and I mean ruins so there is really nothing to see at all. Circus Maximus is just a grassy... more

I used Through Eternity Cultural Association as a guide. It would be difficult to make sense of this place without a guide. It is unbelievable how the emperors lived!!! The indoor riding stadium, the banqueting rooms (where you lie down to eat), even the wall decorations which looked very modern. The view of the forum and Diocletian baths is stunning.... more

It took about two hours to explore all of the ruins and was very educational. But folks please please do not crawl or climb up on the ruins that have been around since 500 B.C. It was a little embarrassing to see American tourists being so disrespectful for the sake of the a picture and the security guards will escort... more

The Palatine usually plays second fiddle to the Forum and the Capitoline, and wasn't marked as a 'must see' in our guide. In many ways though it was actually better than the Forum. Not as historically significant I'm sure - but there's actually quite a bit left of the various emperors' palaces. You get a good idea how lavish the... more

We bought the combo ticket for Palatine Hill and the Colosseum and visited the Hill first. We enjoyed the Hill as it had loads of ancient ruins lying around for us to look through and under and around. As usual, bring your own guidebook 'cause there's nothing there to tell you what's what. There are: a grotto, a garden, great... more

I like this place coz it didn't disappoint me. I queued for half n hour just for buying tickets to go in, and of coz everyone queuing here just wants to buy tickets faster, then they can go to the coloseum without queuing again. But this place is really worth to see than the coloseum... more

We scheduled a private walking tour of Ancient Rome with Through Eternity tours for September of 2006. We booked this tour with them online at . Our guide was Andrew, a young , fun and knowledgeable fellow from Ireland. He met us at our hotel in the morning and we took a cab together over to Palatine Hill. We got... more
