This is an amazing building to see. I think it's almost as impressive as St. Peter's Basilica. It was built in ancient Rome and later turned into a Catholic church. Soaring ceilings, arches and marble floors. Free to get into and definitely worth seeing. More

Beautiful Beautiful Church, has a beautiful pipe organ that plays incredible music. We were lucky enough to be there when a choir was having their practice and they were using the pipe organ. It just sounds ethereal. There are also some information on Galileo there and our favorite was the equinox line. There is a paper where you can see... More

We sought out this church because it's all that remains of the Roman Baths of Diocletian. This ancient Roman bath was giant, and it was the place to be for daily bathing, exercise, socializing and more. The size of the space (and the giant interior columns), give you an idea of how expansive and lavish such a bath might have... More

Situated on the Plaza Republica. You will see on the N.E. side a curved wall with a door to it. Obviously a church door but on entering you will be agog at the splendour and size of the magnificent building secreted behind such an innocuous entrance. More

Not too many tourists visit this gem of a church, despite its location right by the Repubblica Metro Station. The main entrance is easy to miss, being somewhat understated and discreet. Once inside, we were astounded by the size, scale and majesty of the Basilica. Wonderful design -- Michelangelo's last! Galileo is one of the famous Italians highlighted: In the... More

To be honest, we've never taken that well to Santa Maria degli Angeli during our visits to Rome, finding it interesting but not one of our favorites in the city to visit. However, there are interesting things to see here that can make it a rewarding visit. What we do like at Santa Maria degli Angeli is the interesting entrance,... More

This is the one church I felt I could breath in in Rome -- uplifting architecture (much of it notable Michelangelo) -- beautiful Gregorian chants softly playing, not dark, dank and heavy like the others; not laden with crucifixes and crucifix and Virgin paintings, etc. Church was a sanctuary. However, now that the Pope excused Galileo in 1992 (450 years... More
