This baslica is well worth the visit. It is built in Baroque style in 1650. An artist friend of mine in South Africa urged me to visit this Church especially to see the frescoes which were painted on the ceiling by one of the Jesuit Brothers - Anarea Pozzo. Some art fundis feel that the ceiling here is far better... More

Romes churches provide a perfect respite from the mad pace of this very frenetic city. Step into any of them , all free (of any charge and usually of any tourists) and you will instantly unwind. Sant'Ignazio was one of our favorites, with it's riotous, over the top decorated ceiling. Peek into other churches and you may find a Michelangelo,... More

There was nothing I disliked about this beautiful church. The chapels are spectacular. The frescoed ceiling is breathtaking. The famous dome optical illusion alone is worth the visit. It was also not as crowded as many of the more familiar sights and there were plenty of moments to take some good pictures. A MUST SEE in my book! More

The fact that it looks like a dome, until you are just about underneath the "dome" and realize that it is actually a flat ceiling, painted to look like a dome! Really pretty amazing. More

This church lies down a narrow alley which makes an appreciation of its fine front edifice difficult. Up the ramp you pass into a small vestibule which often contains a non-standard fitting in the form of a beggar with a plate who seems to think he has the Papal sanction to be there and fleece you. As you step over... More

One thing about Rome is that you end up with a crick in your neck because you are always looking up - however, visit this church and you will be gald that you did! More
