I cannot imagine what it cost to build this huge estate back in the day. Although much of the structures are in ruins, they are still impressive. I admit to being awestruck. There was enough still standing to see what they were about. The negative is that one has to walk uphill a long way, probably a mile, from the... More

This was our favorite visit. We took Appian tours. Our guide was amazing. She brought Hadiran's villa to life in front of our eyes. The town of Tivoli is simply delightful. So picturesque. Made us want to carry on to the Amalfi Coast. Tivoli is about 40 minutes from Rome and built in the mountain. We enjoyed our time in... More

And don't do one of those cheesy group tours. They will scoot you through too quickly, perhaps make a pass at the Villa d'Este, also worth seeing in depth. As said in previous reviews, if you are into ruins this is heaven on earth without a lot of people in the way. This site deserves the hiring of a private... More

Gorgeous light and almost nobody present on a Monday morning. The ruins of Hadrian's Villa are reflected in several pools surrounded by umbrella pines. More

If you are into ruins, this is a place to visit. It's fairly easy to get to, but a more difficult return unless you buy your return ticket in Rome. More

If you are into your Roman ruins, and can't bear crowds, this is your heaven. It's a bit of a nightmare to get there using public transport (Metro, plus bus, plus walk, with almost no signposting) so if I went again I would probably rent a car. However, the journey is totally worth it. The ruins are in fantastic condition... More

We enjoyed our afternoon touring Villa Adriana. But truly our guide made the tour for us. We would have been lost withoutr her. Silvia was most knowledeable but seemed to know how to stirke a wonderful balance of information to keep our group interested (overall our group knew little about the ruins here or their history). Very large and open.... More

While it was a pain in the butt to get to, it was well worth it. I took the bus from Rebbibia Metro stop which took around 40 mins and was kind of like a mix between a Greyhound bus and a city bus. It was also very cheap, just make sure to get 2 tickets at the station (there... More

Set at the foot of Tivoli, this is a world heritage site, which is remarkable in its sheer scale. It is where Emperor Hadrian (who built the wall in the UK) had his court, apparently he wasn't very fond of Rome. The preservation of the ruins has been well done but because it is so large, I recommend that you... More

After touring Rome, we were so pleased with the lack of tourists & crowds, and having complete freedom/access to wander around the spacious grounds. Although it was unbearably hot the day we visited, we spent at least two hours walking amongst the ruins. There were two features that are particularly memorable: first, the black & white mosaic floors of the... More
