It is amazing - do not miss! Get off at Cipro - the stop after the one that everyone else gets off at - less crowded and more direct. Buy tickets online - 14 euros from the vatican website. Skp the line and walk straight to the door - go to the right hand side where it says 'reservations'. Definitely... more

We were in Rome in 2004 & missed the Sistine Chapel because of the lines & the heat. This time we ordered the tickets online before our trip. The cost was 14 E + a fee of 4 E each...well worth it! You have to pick a day & time, but we picked Wednesday at 11 am & got there... more

The queue to enter the Vatican museum is very long. To avoid the queue we were there about an hour before the opening times - when the museum opened all of the road leading to the entrance was full of people in queue along with most of the turn of the road nearby. We visited on the last Sunday of... more

My husband and I toured through the Vatican on our own, getting to the Sistine Chapel last of all before we left. We were completely awed by standing under such a famous work of art and could have spent an hour looking at it, but it was SO CROWDED that we could barely move! People were everywhere - literally, everywhere... more

We took the subway there with out a problem and walked the few blocks to the entrance. There we were told by a tour guide sales person who does not give the tours that the wait to enter the Vatican is many hours long. But with a tour we could enter thru a special entrance and not have to wait... more

The sistine chapel is pretty small. I loved hearing about the story behind the story with Michelangelo and his imagery. The chapel itself wasn't crowded the day we were there. I saw several people take pictures, even though the signs said not to. In the back corner of the room you can see burn marks where the stove sits when... more

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. We were guided by a local Roman expert, Christina, who seamlessly led us through the crowds. We entered from the back and wandered through the museums learning many details about the artists and painted ceilings. Because we were on an Explorica tour, we had whisper head sets... more

Ok, I'm not an art lover but the Sistine Chapel was not what I was expecting. It's a shame that such an interesting ceiling had to be placed on top of such an ugly room. I also wish the front wall matched the ceiling! On the other hand, the rest of the Vatican Museum was fantastic and not to be... more

I would not know how to get around this problem, but when we were there with a tour, there were so many people all assembled inside the Sistine Chapel that I felt ill from the crowding. Perhaps to see this wonderful site, it may be better to go off season (we were there in mid-October) more

The queue for 'normal' folk to get into the Vatican Museum generally tends to be in excess of 3km long at any time during the day in the summer season. Having missed it last time in Rome, I was determined to get in. One very important piece of advice....just pay the 50 or so euros and go on a guided... more
