This very well preserved palace, home to the art collection of Le Marche region of Italy, is a renaissance wonder. Although far less well known than Firenze, Urbino is well worth a visit if you have the time and means of getting there. We thoroughly enjoyed our day there. More

Don't miss the marquetry(wood inlay work). Also keep looking up at the ceilings. It's easy to overlook the details of this beautiful building and see only the outstanding art collection. More

Imposing size, facade and turrets. Yet inside there are some delicate masterworks. I especially liked the sacred material from the 14th century, and the Duke's personal thinking room. Downsides: I kept getting trapped between school parties, and photography is forbidden even w/o flash. More

The Palazzo Ducale is the signature monument of Urbino, you find it on any souvenir they sell over there. Although it is a really pretty building with some nice pictures hanging in it, I don't think it is worth a detour. But if you are in Urbino anyway, it is well worth a visit. More

It was wonderful that it is open for all but 3 days in the year and is open all day - no closing for lunch. We spent some hours exploring. The first floor is full of artwork. Masters represented include El Greco,Rafaello and his father, Brabante. Rafaello's Portrait of a Gentlewoman has similarities with the Mona Lisa. The basement area... More

Urbino is a magic little village, with romantic views and beautiful narrow streets. And one of the most beautiful thing to do is to visit the Palazzo Ducale with a lot of Renaissance paintings. If you are doing a cuise and arrive to Ancona, don't forget to visit Urbino. You'll not regret. More
