The seven churches at Santo Stefano mark the development of the church in their simple, sometimes primitive design over a period of more than 1,000 years. We loved it, and enjoyed the museum. But most moving was the war memorial on the interior courtyard. All worth the effort to see.

No visit to Bologna is complete without a tour of Santo Stefano, that we know well as we used to live around the corner. One of the most important monuments in Bologna, the “Sette Chiese” represent the focal point of Piazza Santo Stefano, but now consist not of seven but of four churches, two courtyards and a crypt. Most of...

Santo Stefano is a church -- or, more precisely, 7 churches that appear to be one church. The oldest church dates from around 400 AD, and subsequent construction incorporated the previous churches. The history is fascinating.
The Piazza Santo Stefano is quite lovely and became our favorite piazza in Bologna during our week in the city. It is a bit...

Each time I come to Bologna I make time for a visit to this complex which has almost everything. Cloister, romane church, Isis temple. This time we had a personal tour by our guide and we discovered lots of new things about the complex. Highly recommended.

It is beautiful, quiet, interesting, with one of the most particular and less known churches in Italy. The church of Santo Stefano is actually made of 7 churches, built in different periods along a period of almost 1000 years; the cloister is very beautiful, and the crypt and the underground church are extremely interesting, like a jump back to many...

There are so many beautiful churches around Europe, but after a while they all tend to meld into one. Santo Stefano is rather unique in the aspect that it's almost like a maze of many churches in one which is quite unique. It will stand out in my memory for a while and I would definitely recommend a visit.
