About

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I visited this garden few years back with friends. I'm not interested in flora so I didn't expected much. Actually I prepared myself to be bored and how to survive next hour.
But, I was so wrong! The lady guide was fantastic! She kept data about specific plants to minimum and focused on data about general flora in the area. As you probably have read somewhere - in this garden you can see flora from Karst region - from higher altitude to the sea level and bellow (entrance to the caves and chasms).
The hour went by so fast and at the end I was sorry it was finished so soon. :)

It was not too easy to find this garden - it's tucked away above Trieste and very close to the border. But the search proved well worth it. This was a really interesting place where the various types of landscape of Slovenia and the Trieste area (from the alpine to the limestone to the coast) have been created to show the different species of wild flowers and trees that are found in each. The labelling is well done and the layout of the pathways is good - though would not be too suitable for less able visitors. The entrance table offers an informative and well-written sheet in English. The number of butterflies was amazing - we've seldom seen so many in one place. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Admittedly, we had some issues with finding the place, as there was hardly any information available on the net (if you point your car navigation to Sgonico and then head towards Gabrovizza, you will find it quickly on your right. Alternatively, take bus no# 46).
But how well worth the research was! Not only is the place a little jewel for plant lovers located in an exceptionally nice surrounding, we also got a personal and very thorough introduction from one of the curators which covered not only the plants, but also the history of the place and the region. This helped us appreciating how many different species are in fact located in this space, which is comprised of several different micro-climates. Information material is available in many different languages to help you find your way.
If you love plants (and butterflies), this place comes highly recommended!
