A small port just with lots of boats and restaurants along the seafront make this an ideal spot to eat and wander. The sea is clean so in the summer a swim can be a welcome break.
We were only in Trieste for 3 days and we spent a day here. The rest of our time was walking around the town.
This is Trieste's 'beach' area.....very rocky but steps into the sea. Lots of bars and cafes....ten minutes on bus from Trieste. Went a couple of times whilst in Trieste. Very clean and safe.
Barcola is the name of a neighborhood, but when locals say they're going to Barcola, they usually mean going to the beach. On Viale Miramare from the Pineta to the Castello di Miramare you can find the most unreal beach of the world. (In a 50-meters cross-section there are the sea, the concrete beach, the promenade, the motorway and houses... More
I really love this place. It a promenade about 5 - 6 km long. You can reach the Mirare Castle without never leave the seafront. It'perfect for a romantic walking or if you want to do jogging while breathing sea air. On summer the entire promenade is filled by people of Trieste that use it like a beach. And it... More
Barcola is a bus (6 or 36) or quick taxi (9 euro) away from the centre of Trieste, and it is heaven. A local institution, you can sit or lie on the walkway and then simply slip in and out of the ocean without ever touching a grain of sand. Sand is the one thing about the beach that gets... More
I did not know what Barcola was, until my Italian friend explain the importance of the area. A superb large bay where every year in October if I remember well, a huge boat race takes place with approx. 2,000 taking part. It is another area of natural beauty only a few minutes from Trieste city centre.
Not really a beach, even if we call it so! It is simply a street, attached to the sea where in the summer you cannot walk on it for 2 reasons: first, the ground reaches temperature taht you cannot imagine; secondly, because if you find a place where to put your towel.... you are really lucky!
Perfect place to walk and have a nice promenade. You can rent boats, or go to the gelatteria California, during the summer you can bring your chair or blanket and lay down to read or simply watch the Ocean and the bis ships.
