As advised by the tourist ofice we caught bus 36 from the City Centre. We expected it would be obvious where to get off for the castle but it wasn't.... we must have gone past the main entrance and ended up at a small marina where the bust turns round to go back to town. We eventually found a small... More

Bautiful Castle and easy to go from Trieste Central Station. The park is also good to walk around. More

Trieste is one of my favorite spots in Italy. It's a decent sized city off the beaten tourist track. Castello Miramare is a little white jewel situated on a point on the Adiratic just north (east?) of the city. Built by the Hapsburgs during their multi-century rule (Trieste was the only consistent seaport for the Austro-Hungarian empire), it is well... More

We took bus 36 from Via Galatti near the junction with Piazza Oberdan. (You can't go the wrong way as this is the end of the line). It is then a short walk along the road (the closest stop is after the Castle) and through the wonderful park. The area is simply beautiful, wonderful planting and the castle looks like... More

From Quarto d'Altino we went by car to Triesta, about 120 km, where we spent the day. The tourist office which is hard to find is located in the center of the city at the Piazza del Unita d'Italia where are the city hall and the governer palace. From the pamphlets we picked up we got the idea of visiting... More

Took the 36 bus from Trieste and walked down through the park to the Castello. entrance to the Castello was free because it was cultural week (April 14 to 21), but the visit was slightly spoiled by the presence of large numbers of teenagers on school trips. They were not much interested in viwing the displays and pushed their way... More

This castle is like comming out of a dream. It is visible on the shore from far away. Once there enjoy the stroll through the park and especiall enjoy the scenery at the castle itself. It is not without a reason that the tragic emperor Maximilian did choose this spot to build his castle. We enjoyed the visit enourmosly and... More

Beautiful castle, built with white stones from Carso, on the sea. It was built by Maximilian of Augsburg as the residence for he and his new wife, Carlotta. The park surrounding the castle is vast and magic. The view of Trieste from the castle is enchanting. A real must see place. More

The castle is fascinating and it is worth while getting the audio guide to learn so much more about it all. The grounds are free to enter and the views of the bay are wonderful. The cafe in the parterre garden is reasonable value. There are also plenty of seats where you can sit and watch the world go by.... More
