La Scala is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. You can self-tour the building or you can get tickets for an opera, ballet or philharmonic performance. The ticket office is under the Duomo Piazza. We have seen fantastic operas here and ordinary ones. The opera house itself is magnificent.

I purchased tickets online about 8 weeks prior to the show. We saw a ballet which lasted only 45 minutes. Following intermission, there was a different performance that was enjoyable. I didn't feel that I received full value for what the tickets cost but I still enjoyed the experience - do go!

We were in Milan for just one night and shocked when we saw that an opera would be performed that night and we were able to get tickets (online in advance). Turns out it was a waste of money. The production and music were absolutely beautiful and the theatre is just beautiful. Our seats were a whole different story.
