Visited Piazza San Marco on October 2. It was our first day in Europe, the weather was sunny and beautiful, and the piazza was the perfect way to jumpstart our 2 week vacation in Italy. Maybe it was off-season for Venice, but I didn't find the piazza to be too crowded at all, as other reviewers have noted. Took a... more

Breathtakingly beautiful at night!! Listening to the orchestras was an experience, basically a free concert! Feel free to dance with your partner, let the magic of this beautiful piazza embrace you!! more

Ju70st know what you are getting into. St. Mark's Square in September is VERY busy. We stopped, has some wine at one of the restaurants on the square, listened to the music and just loved it. Now, the experience in Florence wasn't the same, that was hot crowded and not so lovely. But Piazza San Marco, the music and our... more

Of course it's touristy, what did you expect! But it's ok - it does not take anything away from the charm and beautiful architecture at this place. It's a huge sqaure (actually rectangle) with the basilica at one end and lined with shops and restaurants on the other 3 sides. Right off the piazza (square) is the Doge's palace (do... more

We were there in late July and the heat, crowds and advertising displays didn't make this place very appealing. We went back at night, but we thought it still lacked the charm of many public areas we visited during our six-day trip to Italy. more

My husband and I ventured to Piazza San Marco while we were in Venice for our honeymoon. It's a beautiful place and some of the architecture is fascinating, but it's a total tourist trap and (ironically) feels far less authentic than many of the other squares in the city. It's worth visiting, but I'd suggest going off the beaten path... more

Much to our surprise, lots of cruise ships seems to unload during the day around the alleys of Venice. While it's great to see during the day, St. Mark's Square is a chaotic, hot mess (especially in the summer, yikes). BUT, do yourself a favor, GO AT NIGHT -- get some gelato or the most expensive cup of coffee you... more

Our second trip to Piazza San Marco with two children and a baby was not great in the hot August sun. Five years after our previous visit we hoped we would be as enchanted as were first time round. We were well equipped with water, food and, most importantly in Venice, money. The view of the square was wonderful despite a few... more

We took the water bus here from the bus depot. My wife wanted to buy some Venician masks for her collection from the vendors off the square so I took a table at an outdoor cafe, ordered a beer & watched the world going by. Maybe tourism is down in most parts of the world, but not in Venice! Every... more

Group of fellow travellers had a top notch Italian meal at a marvellous restaurant called "Colombos" - don't exactly know the via situated but is well known by the locals. Walk back towards St Mark's Square to hear the beautiful music from three different orchestras. Also around 10 PM you can notice pools of water appearing in parts of the... more
