Really likes visiting the place... full of history... the place where the prisoners could see for the last time the light before joining their cells... sighing thinking about what was going to happen next... I think venice is a place of history and places like this have to be visited to understand the importance of the city More

Best view is from inside, take the tour of the Doge Palace, and then from inside the prisons you get to walk over it twice. Feels cold and creepy inside the prison downstairs, like they are almost still there those poor souls. More

This is the small covered bridge that you can see from the Paglia bridge on Riva degli Schiavoni. Many think that the sighs it refers to are those of lovers' passing under it in a gondola.....Wrong! The bridge actually connected the Court of Justice inside the Ducal Palace on your right with the prison hosted in the building on your... More

See it from the outside as you stroll along the Grand Canal and see it from the inside on the Doge Palace tour. Not much to see, really, but the romantic back-story is compelling. More

It's very busy on the bridge which can be annoying but its well worth it just to see the bridge, its haunting in many ways but very beautiful and adds to the many things i'm glad i visited in Venice. More

I think this is actually very nice, but it's been under construction and I've only seen it via the large construction covering. More

A hugely popular bridge for sightseeing, even ranked #1 on the DK Top Ten bridges to see in Venice, but we have always found the Bridge of Sighs just an average attraction in Venice. You can visit the Bridge of Sighs during a visit to the Doge's Palace, walking across it to the prison cell area of the palace, in... More

... is to head to the bridge that is not the one on the main thoroughfare that runs alongside the big hotels (i.e. next door to the Danieli). That bridge is always super busy and hard to take photos from. ... or take a gondola and travel beneath it. Don't forget the good fortune kiss with your partner as you... More

It is difficult to understand the enduring popularity of the Ponte dei Sospiri for tourists: the Ponte della Paglia, which overlooks it, is forever awash with those seeking photo opportunities, and I often wonder why - the bridge is, after all, the entrance to a prison. Ruskin put it down to the misplaced sentimentality of Byron and it is hard... More
