During our recent Venice holiday, we spent some time in Dorsoduro and made our way to Campo Santa Margherita after reading that this was a Venice DK Top Ten place to visit. We arrived around midday and mostly spent time in the lovely Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Carmini church on the west side of the square. The square itself,... More

Our experience did not correspond to the wonderful reviews. Perhaps Venice is too crowded with tourists at the beginning of June, but some of the restaurants had shills out in the square trying to get you into their place--intrusive and obnoxious. By mid-evening the square and surrounding streets & bridges are mobbed with college age kidswith college age kids doing... More

The square itself is okay for its architecture of buildings surrounding (venetian which you can see anywhere else in venice) and the size is impressive. But we passed through as someone on TA recommended it was a great place for dinner. Well, the restaurants all on the square stand there trying to reel you in. "Hey, where you from... you... More

We came across this campo quite often on our walks; it's really big and there's always something going on. Each morning you can buy fish and vegetables here on the market stalls. However, on Saturday mornings the place is covered in market stalls selling bric and brac mostly but lots of other things too. There's always some kind of entertainment... More

Spent time here in the mornings for coffee and afternoons for drinks - great people watching, variety of restaurants & cafes, and a gelato shop where you can get a cone for 1 euro! Highly recommended. Particularly enjoyed cafe rosso and Orange for afternoon drinks. More

Just back from Venice and one of our best finds was Campo Santa Margherita. Once we found the place we went back most days, at all different times. Just sat in the square and definitely ate the pizza. Best little pizza shop: Pizza Al Volva, the pizza was massive, the price cheap, the music playing at the time was Bob... More

Quaint litte piazza in the maze that is Venice. It is a traditional square cobble-stone town plaza surrounded by cafes and restaurants. They cater to the University crowd and as such, have a real youthful and festive atmosphere. Greates Pizza I have ever tasted in my life for about 1.5 euros a slice. You'll know it by the lineup out... More
