A bustling cafe serving stunning pastries and chocolates. Elegant and delicious. Bill of 7.50 Euros was for 4 mini pastries and a glass of local wine. Virtually every seat was taken on a Thursday morning in January - I imagine getting a seat in the Summer would be a real challenge. Well worth a detour.

I visited the Rosa Salva location just off St. Mark's Square (calle Fiubera), as local italian friends from nearby Mestre brought me here. We had read glowing reviews about this place in various travel books. However, the cafe shakerato lacked flavour and reminded me of instant coffee. A nice touch was the liquid sugar to pour into the cup. The service could best be described as lacklustre.

Go to Rosa Salva and either have ice cream sitting at one of the outside tables, or grab a tub/cone and go and sit on the wall near the canal. The ice cream is fantastic and watching life go by in this square whilst eating it was a favourite Venice moment!
