Very overrated. The one mystifying thing about Verona is that it really milks the Romeo & Juliet story for all it's worth. Tacky R&J souvenir stalls abound. 15 years ago this was a beautiful sight with a romantic atmosphere. Last year I returned here with friends who had never been to Verona before only to be confronted by the obscene spectacle of grafitti coved walls and bits of paper stuck with chewing gum. When I heard a tour rep saying watch out for pickpockets I just knew this would be bad. From the graffitti to the post it notes all over the walls it said "This is really a joke" and it was worse it was tacky and seedy. I loved it! But then again, I love everything about Italy. It was very romantic, even if it wasn't Juliet's real house. The little balcony and courtyard were really beautiful. more
