Not to be missed at any expense. Cheapest day of entertainment in Sicily. Bring a lunch an water. Do not take the tram through this wonderland of ruins and culture if your able to walk. Selinunte is to be experienced slowly, absorbing the feelings that come from wonder and imagination of being an ancient Greek in this paradise. 1000 acres... More

While the ruins, what there were of them, were impressive, the experience was diminished by lack of help at the site, lack of audio guides, as well as very poor signage telling you where to go. Informational signs were so technical that they offered little historical value. There were a few drivers there, but only to help those who chose... More

Selinunte was one of the most important of the ancient Greek colonies in Sicily, situated on the southwest coast of that island, at the mouth of the small river of the same name. It was founded, according to historian Thucydides, by a colony from the Sicilian city of Megara, under the conduct of a leader named Pammilus, about 100 years... More

We visited Sicilia to see the many Greek ruins and other archaeological places of interest. I enjoyed each place for unique reasons, but after much deliberation, my personal favorite site was Selinunte. (We also visited Segesta and Agrigento). There are two areas to explore, and both are worth visiting. One area has 3 temples, 2 of which are essentially piles... More

Amazing sight, no need to go to the furtherest ruins as the closest are the most spectacular. Like you are in Greece, but better and near a great beach. More

I visited the site on a hot July day. The ruins are absolutely fantastic, but we would have appreciated to have some services on our way, even to be able to buy a bottle of water... A place to visit, but not in mid-summer! More

The ruins at Selinunte are spread over a number of open fields. You can simply wander along the paths lined with wildflowers and admire the amazing achievement of creating and erecting these massive stone columns. The guide books suggest you can lie on the beach and look up at the ruins. You can - but you have to go out... More

Must go, better if it's sunset (especially during the Summer) and if before you go to the beach right down the temple hill on the west side of Marinella di Selinunte. Magic. More

We visited on a very hot august afternoon, but the setting overlooking the blue sparkling sea and the amazing ruins were well worth the discomfort. It is really amazing. More
